The Rewrite

Release: February, 2015.

Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Plot: An Oscar-Winning writer is in a rut. He can’t get any work in Hollywood. He is resorted to taking a teaching job at Binghamton University.

I was lucky enough to attend an advanced screening of The Rewrite as well as a Q & A held afterward with star of the film, Hugh Grant and the writer/director, Marc Lawrence. This was a special experience for me because I am a Binghamton University Alum. Watching this film filled me with Binghamton pride!

The film itself was cute, much like Marc Lawrence’s other films. He writes romantic comedies and he writes them well. There was the protagonist, the man that’s in a rut. Said protagonist used to be on top, he longs for the good ole’ days, he longs for his former glory. It seems to be all down hill from here. He hits rock bottom, which for Keith (Hugh Grant) is a teaching job at Binghamton University until he becomes inspired by a hard working woman that just gets him.

This is a typical story line but it’s one that works in any situation with any character of any age or ethnicity. This is a love story that is extremely likable because it is relate-able.

The Rewrite has many laugh out loud moments but it had even more heart warming “aww” out loud moments. This is a sweet, adorable, heart warming film. I even teared up a few times. The Rewrite is definitely worth checking out, especially if you love romantic comedies.
